Godwin Nwabunka (Ph.D.) - CEO


Dr. Nwabunka holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Gregorian University Rome, Italy. He served the United Nations System for Development for about 20 years. Between 1990 and 2000, he was Programme Analyst and Team Leader for the Employment and Livelihood Team, UNDP. Dr. Nwabunka is a committed, well trained and experienced microfinance practitioner and development manager. As pioneer manager of the UNDP MicroStart programme (1996 – 2000), he guided UNDP in identifying and contracting ASA Bangladesh, the fastest growing microfinance institution in the world as International Technical Service Provider (ITSP) to midwife and nurture the growth of microfinance in Nigeria. The initiative contributed significantly to the impressive performance of the three market leaders – LAPO, Benin City, DEC Bauchi, and Centre for Grassroots Economic Empowerment {CGEE} formerly JPDC, Ijebu-Ode. He has participated in various microfinance professional trainings in Harvard University, University of Colorado and Bangladesh among others. Dr. Nwabunka also managed UNDP’s programmes for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector and Urban Informal Sector, with focus on leveraging resources from the private sector for enterprise development.

Adesoji Tayo (Ph.D.)  - Executive Director

sojiprofile Dr. Tayo is a State award winner on Community Development. He holds a Ph.D. in Business Information Management from Babcock University Nigeria and a first degree in Economics, Masters in Business Administration and masters’ degrees in Information Sciences from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife and University of Ibadan respectively. He has over 22 years working experience with 14 years of it working with the United Nations in Nigeria, working in different major positions. Before joining UNICEF in 1995, he was a management consultant to various companies including banks in Nigeria.  Between 1997 and 2001 coordinated the Urban Basic Services project in UNICEF with a subproject on provision of microcredit to urban poor in the cities of Lagos and Ibadan. He was a member of the 3-member team that designed the Profile of the five Urban LGAs of Ibadan Planning Baseline Data (circulated to UNICEF offices worldwide in 1997 as good practice) and also a core member of the team that developed the programme plan of operation on Community Development programmes being implemented in UNICEF Nigeria as part of the 2002-2008 Country Programme, as well as the adoption of participatory learning approaches in eliciting and passing information to target audiences and participatory community assessment tools for conducting base line surveys, needs assessment and evaluating finished projects.

Alexander Nnamdi Enyinnah (M.Sc. Banking & Finance) - Programme Director


Mr. Enyinnah is a seasoned microfinance disciple with over 15 years continuous involvement in hardcore banking and promotion of microfinance, and has been exposed to international best practices in microfinance delivery in Asia, Latin America and Africa. Before joining Grooming Centre, he was working with ASA Bangladesh as the National Technical Service Provider to the UNDP MicroStart project and later consultant to UNDP on consolidating the gains of the MicroStart project in the three most promising microfinance institutions (LAPO, DEC and CGEE). He has received various trainings on Microfinance worldwide and was trained on global microfinance best practices at the renowned University of Colorado in Boulder in 2003. He was elected as a delegate to the World Microcredit Summit in Bangladesh in 2004; currently a member of the 10-man advisory board for UNDP, National Planning Commission and Central Bank of Nigeria on Microfinance. He is the current Vice President of African Microfinance Transparency (AMT).

Isoken Nwabunka (B.A. English, M.A. International Relations) - Head of Administration


Mrs. Nwabunka holds a Bachelors degree in English and a Masters degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies, both from Lagos State University. She is an astute entrepreneur with a strong belief in empowering women and households through financial intermediation. She commenced her microfinance practice through an extensive training and association with LAPO, a leading market player in Nigeria. As pioneer General Manager of the Centre, she was instrumental in nurturing the centre during the start-up period and guiding its early growth and stabilization. She is highly self-motivated and founded various striving enterprises before, joining Grooming Centre.

Grace Onwunkwe (HND Banking & Finance, PGD Management) - Head of Finance

GRACEMrs. Onwunkwe holds a postgraduate diploma in Management from Lagos State University, a Higher National Diploma in Banking and Finance from Lagos State Polytechnic and ICAN certification (in view). She has extensive professional and hands-on experience in working with international private organizations. Between 1993 and 2008, she held various professional positions at Panalpina World Transport Nigeria Limited ranging from Communications to IT, to the Shipping and Finance departments - astutely managing pay rolls, general ledgers and performing banking operations. She has solid experience in modern financial systems, branch expansion management, quality control monitoring and management information systems (MIS).
